  12. Pierre MacKay and I have been trying to agree on a recommended
  13. installation hierarchy for Unix TeX to present to others. We find
  14. ourselves with different opinions on one minor point, and taking a poll
  15. seems the fairest way to resolve it:

  17. Should directories containing Type 1 (for example) fonts be named
  18. 1) with the FullName of the font up to the first hyphen, e.g., `CharterBT'; or
  19. 2) with the typeface name in lowercase, e.g., `charter'?
  20.  
  21. Send your vote to tex-poll-fontdir@cs.umb.edu (replying to this message
  22. ought to go there automatically in most cases). Please put `1' or `2' on
  23. the subject line, so it'll be easy for me to tabulate the results. You
  24. can also write comments if you like, but we won't be looking at the mail
  25. until the poll period is up, so don't expect a quick reply.

  27. We will wait at least one week after posting this message (until 8
  28. December 1993), and if replies are still coming in then we'll keep
  29. waiting until it seems fair to count the results.

  31. Apologies for not giving all the background, more details, etc., but it
  32. seems best to wait until we have something coherent to present. The
  33. question of what to name the typeface directories seems independent of
  34. what goes *into* the directories. (Although it's not independent of
  35. *whether* there should be such directories, I admit.)
